Thompkins, Tyson, Reynolds Earn Weekly Honors With Standout Performances

LAS VEGAS (May 3, 2016) – The Arena Football League has announced that Orlando’s Brandon Thompkins, Arizona’s Dimetrio Tyson and Philadelphia’s Darius Reynolds have been named as the Under Armour Offensive Player, Riddell Defensive Player and AFL Playmaker of the Week for Week 5, respectively.  In addition to these awards, the AFL has awarded Arizona’s Rod Windsor the Cutters Catch of the Week, while the AFL Highlight of the Week was awarded to Tampa Bay’s Mike Washington.

UNDER ARMOUR OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Thompkins (5’10, 185, Arkansas State) tallied 337 all-purpose yards and seven total touchdowns to lead the Predators to a 76-56 victory over the Cleveland Gladiators (1-4) and earned AFL Playmaker of the Game honors.  The former Red Wolf hauled in nine catches for 123 yards and five receiving touchdowns and a 2-yard rushing touchdown.  He added nine kick returns for 211 yards, including a 56-yard kickoff return for another score.  Thompkins leads the AFL in all-purpose yards (1,173) and is No. 2 in scoring with 96 points for the unbeaten Predators (5-0).

RIDDELL DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Tyson (6’2, 290, Jacksonville State) helped lead the Rattlers’ defensive front in their 68-21 home victory over the Portland Steel (0-5) at Talking Stick Resort Arena.  The second-year veteran defensive lineman recorded 3.0 total tackles, a forced fumble and two of his team’s five total sacks on his way to earning AFL Playmaker of the Game honors.  He currently leads the AFL with 5.0 total sacks to help the Rattlers remain perfect on the season at 5-0.

J. LEWIS SMALL PLAYMAKER OF THE WEEK: Reynolds (6’2, 205, Iowa State) continues his impressive start to his 2016 season when he hauled in 10 receptions for 134 yards and three touchdowns in the Soul’s 56-33 victory over the Los Angeles KISS at Honda Center on Monday night.  The former All-Arena standout leads his team with 38 receptions for 456 yards and 12 touchdowns on the season, while helping the Soul to a 4-1 record.

CUTTERS CATCH OF THE WEEK:  Windsor (6’2, 215, Western New Mexico) hauled in a 48-yard scoring strike from QB Nick Davila in the first quarter in Arizona’s 68-21 win over the Portland Steel. The fifth-year veteran had 91 receiving yards and four total touchdowns (3 receiving and one rushing).  The former Mustang is No. 2 in the AFL in reception yards with 634. Windsor is the League leader in touchdowns scored this season with 19, while helping the Rattlers continue to remain undefeated through the first five weeks of the season.

AFL HIGHLIGHT OF THE WEEK:  Welcome to Tampa!  Washington (5’8, 180, Hawaii) started off his first game with the Tampa Bay Storm with an opening game 58-yard kickoff return for a touchdown. Washington’s kickoff return ties the single game high for a kickoff return for the 2016 season. The fifth-year veteran led all players in all-purpose yards with 173 (65 receiving, 108 kickoff return) in Sunday’s 33-27 loss to the Sharks.

WEEK 2: Jacksonville’s Joe Hills (Offensive), Cleveland’s Joe Powell (Defensive), Arizona’s Rod Windsor (Playmaker), Tampa Bay’s Philip Barnett (Catch), and Orlando’s Kent Richardson (Highlight).
WEEK 3:  Arizona’s Nick Davila (Offensive), Los Angeles’ Rayshaun Kizer (Defensive), Philadelphia’s Teddy Jennings (Playmaker), Cleveland’s Brandon Stephens (Catch), and Orlando’s Brandon Thompkins (Highlight).
WEEK 4:  Philadelphia’s Dan Raudabaugh (Offensive), Orlando’s Varmah Sonie (Defensive), Arizona’s Maurice Purify (Playmaker), Philadelphia’s Darius Reynolds (Catch), and Cleveland’s Marvin Ross (Highlight).
