Hippeard, Victorian, Nelson Earn Weekly Honors With Standout Performances
LAS VEGAS (May 10, 2016) – The Arena Football League has announced that Orlando’s Randy Hippeard, Los Angeles’ Josh Victorian and Cleveland’s Arvell Nelson have been named as the Under Armour Offensive Player,Riddell Defensive Player and AFL Playmaker of the Week for Week 6, respectively. In addition to these awards, the AFL has awarded Cleveland’s Collin Taylor the Cutters Catch of the Week, while the AFL Highlight of the Week was awarded to Philadelphia’s Dwayne Hollis. UNDER ARMOUR OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Hippeard (6’3, 215, Virginia-Wise) completed 22-of-30 passes for 340 yards, nine touchdowns and no interceptions to lead the undefeated Predators to a 77-59 victory over the Arizona Rattlers (5-1) and earned Under Armour Offensive Player of the Game honors at Amway Center this past weekend. The fourth-year veteran has completed 126-of-191 passes for 1,700 yards, 37 touchdowns and only three interceptions in guiding the unbeaten Predators (6-0) this season. This is the second time this season that Hippeard has earned this award.
RIDDELL DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Victorian (5’10, 190, Louisiana Tech) helped lead the KISS’ secondary in their 66-27 home victory over the Portland Steel (0-5) at Honda Center. The second-year veteran defensive back recorded 9.0 total tackles, a fumble recovery and two of his team’s five interceptions. Victorian is No. 2 on Los Angeles with 22.5 total tackles and has added two interceptions, a fumble recovery and three pass breakups in 2016.
J. LEWIS SMALL PLAYMAKER OF THE WEEK: Nelson (6’5, 225, Texas Southern) led a second-half comeback by completing 17-of-30 passes for 221 yards and three touchdowns, while adding 34 rushing yards and three rushing scores in the Gladiators’ 41-40 victory over the Jacksonville Sharks (2-4) at Quicken Loans Arena on Saturday night. Cleveland trailed by as many as 19 points late in the third quarter before coming back for the win. With just two starts, the former Tiger has completed 50-of-85 passes (58.8%) for 669 yards and 11 touchdowns and is 1-1 as the starter for Cleveland (2-4) on the 2016 season.
CUTTERS CATCH OF THE WEEK:
Taylor (6’1, 205, Indiana) hauled in six catches for 101 yards and two touchdowns in Saturday’s game. Taylor made a spectacular one-handed, game-winning touchdown grab with 34 seconds left in the game that helped Cleveland get a thrilling 41-40 win over the Jacksonville Sharks at Quicken Loans Arena. The former Hoosier is No. 5 in the League in reception yards (524) and is tied for No. 4 in the League with reception touchdowns (13). Through six games this season, Taylor has had three 100-yard receiving performances.
AFL HIGHLIGHT OF THE WEEK:
Hollis (5’10, 185, North Carolina Wesleyan) returned an interception for a 40-yard touchdown in the Soul’s 47-17 win over the Storm. Hollis currently ranks tied for No. 2 in the League in interceptions (4) and has 20.0 total tackles on the season. The former Battling Bishop has returned two of those interceptions for touchdowns, putting him tied for No. 3 in the League among players this season in interception return touchdowns.

WEEK 4: Philadelphia’s Dan Raudabaugh (Offensive), Orlando’s Varmah Sonie (Defensive), Arizona’s Maurice Purify (Playmaker), Philadelphia’s Darius Reynolds (Catch), and Cleveland’s Marvin Ross (Highlight).
