-Alabama, with 40 first-place votes, once again is the top-ranked team after dispatching Kentucky. Ohio State remained No. 2 and picked up four first-place votes. Clemson, with the other first-place vote, moved into the third slot after its pulsating home victory over Louisville, which dropped to No. 7 after the loss in Death Valley.

-Stanford dropped to No. 14 after its loss at unbeaten Washington, which moved up four slots to No. 6. Florida State dropped out of the poll for the first time this year after a home loss to unranked North Carolina. Arkansas jumped back into the poll at No. 16 after a one-week absence.

-The SEC led all leagues with five teams in the poll. The Big Ten had four teams, the ACC three and the Pac-12 two. The American and Big 12 had one each.
