Buy Tate Now
Miami isn’t starting him, Marshall is gonna be ready
The Miami Hurricanes shocked the world in naming freshman Jarren Williams the starting quarterback over the hype transfer Tate Martell. Martell transferred to Miami from Ohio St., whom he committed to in 2017 after having one of the more prolific high school football careers. Martell led Bishop Gorman High School to multiple championships, played on ESPN, and went undefeated his entire high school career (43-0).
How the hell did we get here? And why am I telling you to buy stock in him now?
If you follow Martell on Instagram you might see his smoke show girlfriend, his tattoos, and conclude that the kid is a massive tool. And maybe many would agree with you. My first in depth introduction to Tate Martell was on the Netflix show “QB1: Beyond the Lights”. The first season followed the senior years of: Tayvon Bowers, Jake Fromm, & Tate Martell. Bowers has barely touched the field at Georgia Tech, Martell is at his second school and may be looking for a third after not practicing once he wasn’t chosen as the starter, & Fromm will most likely be the #1 pick come this year’s NFL Draft.
In the show it showed the massive contrast in all their lives and the expectations of a high-profile college prospect at the quarterback position. Tate flashes the most in the show, although it’s clear that Fromm is more polished, you can’t take your eye off Martell. His flashy style, gun slinger, dual threat mentality immediately reminds you of Johnny Manziel. He was so prolific during his time at Bishop Gorman and the show makes that known. He handled all the criticism and pressure with winning. Plain and simple.
Martell’s time at Ohio St. was less than what was expected, to say the least. He redshirted his freshman season, backed up Dwayne Haskins in 2018, and looked to be the presumed starter until Justin Fields transferred to Ohio St. from Georgia. Tate basically immediately after made his intention to join former Bishop Gorman teammates Brevin Jordan and Bubba Bolden at the University of Miami. Something that seemed like a match made in heaven. But here we are, it’s mid-August and he’s possibly headed right back into the transfer portal.
So what’s next for the former 4 star recruit?
The answer is simple: Chip Kelly & UCLA. Chip Kelly and Tate Martell would be football porn. The flash and swag of Tate Martell and the spread it out tempo offense of Chip Kelly. What else do you need? Not to mention the current starting QB at UCLA, Dorain Thompson-Robinson, was Martell’s backup at Bishop Gorman. At the end of the day, whether UCLA happens or not, I’m not ready to give up on Tate Martell. I have been high on him since seeing him on ESPN as a high schooler and I’m not hopping off of the wagon just yet. C’mon football gods, give us what we all want, Chip Kelly and Tate Martell. The real match made in heaven.
