5 to Watch in Week 1

The Armchair Scout is ready for action

Let’s take a look at five players I am looking forward to watching the most in week one!

  1. Jake Fromm QB Georgia v Vanderbilt

Week one sees my Heisman favorite Jake Fromm in a favorable match up where he should be able to shine. Although the national media are lower on Vandy than I am, I do expect Fromm to be able to take full advantage of this match up. Getting Georgia off to a good, quick start to the season in which I think they could go all the way.

  1. Justin Fields QB Ohio St. v FAU

From QB1 season one to season two with former Georgia man and now starter for Ohio St. quarterback Justin Fields. Fields didn’t want to wait behind Jake Fromm and decided to head over to the Ohio St. university. I’m very intrigued and excited to see what Fields and new head coach Ryan Day can do this season. There’s no reason why Fields shouldn’t be successful, he has literally all the talent in the world, and it should show week one against FAU.

  1. Kelly Bryant QB Missouri v Wyoming

Very quarterback heavy this week, what can I say? This was a massive get for Coach Odom and the Missouri Tigers. Kelly Bryant was good at what he was asked to do at Clemson. His best season statistically came his junior season where he threw for nearly 3000 yards and rushed for 665. He did throw 13 TDs to 8 Interceptions, all while running for another 11. He will have to do better than just replicating these numbers for these Tigers to be as successful as the ones he used to play for. Although they are ineligible for bowl play, Bryant has a lot to prove. Wyoming should be a showcase game for what he can bring to this Missouri team.

  1. Jalen Hurts QB Oklahoma v Houston

I’m sorry! Another QB but what can I say, when have we had these many storylines? Another massive name in the college football world moves from one perennial powerhouse in Alabama to another in Oklahoma. Following in the footsteps of back to back Heisman winners Baker Mayfield and Kyler Murray. Hurts is expected to immediately succeed in Lincoln Riley’s offense. I don’t think he will make it 3 straight Heisman winners, but I am dying to see what he will look like with Lincoln Riley in week one.

  1. John Emery Jr RB LSU v Georgia Southern

Do they have their next Leonard Fournette? This is what is on the mind of all LSU fans right now. Although Clyde Edwards-Helaire is the projected starter, I find it hard to believe that LSU will be able to keep John Emery Jr. off the field. He’s as talented a high school runner I have ever watched and looks a sure-fire talent even as a true freshman. I expect to see a fair amount of him in what should be a blowout victory for LSU against Georgia Southern.
